Hong Kong Association of Risk Management and Safety
The risk of occupational cancer is real and it is not small.
Research published in 2017 showed that over 740,000 workers die from occupational cancer a year. This is an alarming number and we must raise the awareness of occupational cancer-related hazards in workplaces so that employers can plan and implement effective risk control measures, including, but not limited to, design away the use of any carcinogenic materials, removal of such substance, control the exposure with stringent standards, apply strong administration control, etc.
We must provide adequate and effective training, oversight and PPE to all involved. Occupational cancer is preventable and we must act now.
