Most will be familiar with HSE's excellent guidance "Farmwise" -  Farmwise Your essential guide to health and safety in agriculture

But two other publications have recently been (rediscovered) which will be particularly relevant and helpful to farmers, advisors and others working in Europe and internationally.

European Commission - This guidance was produced by the EC's "Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Directorate General, so it is particularly relevant to accession countries and available in various languages.

This non-binding guide provides information and examples of good practice in connection with the implementation of health and safety directives,

This guide contains various examples of good practice which have either been selected from the guides existing in the EU Member States or specially designed for this guide. This publication will be available in printed format in English, French and German and in electronic format in all other EU official languages."

IInternational Labour Organisation (ILO) guidance

This (ILO) code of practice is intended to raise awareness of the hazards and risks associated with agriculture and promote their effective management and control; to help prevent occupational accidents and diseases and improve the working environment in practice;

to encourage governments, employers, workers and other stakeholders to cooperate to prevent accidents and diseases;to promote more positive attitudes and behaviour towards occupational safety and health in agriculture throughout the sector;

ensure that good workplace health and safety practices are applied to all workers in the workplace regardless of age or gender.
