Mid Shires – Chair’s message – October 2017

Welcome to the Midshires Branch of IOSH October 2017 message from the Chair

I trust you are all back after the summer break and are well into your planning for 2018. As we now look ahead and consider our budgetary needs, what will our focus be in 2018 and beyond? If statistical information is anything to go on then our collective focus has got to be on preventing the latent long-term effects of ill health. As health and safety professionals we have to get the message across to our seniors that this is important today as we plan for tomorrow especially if we are truly going to make a sustainable difference to health and wellbeing of society.

What impact will ISO45001 have on our decision making? Is this really going to be the big change we have been seeking? Will the leadership of our organisations now be asked to demonstrate a more collaborative approach to risk management and be seen to influence the way we look at our management systems in general? I certainly hope that more organisations across the world choose to use ISO45001 as a positive tool for loss prevention and a means to influence a positive desire to change the perception of our profession for the better.

Our programme for 2017-2018 has been finalised and is available on the microsite. Please keep an eye on the microsite where you will find details of topics covered over the next few months.

We believe that there is something for everyone regardless of where you are on your individual career journey or your particular SHEQ specialism so please feel free to invite your work colleagues along also especially those you are seeking to influence.

For our next meeting on Thursday 12th October 2017 we welcome Nick Lloyd from ROSPA to talk to us on the subject of Occupational Road Risk. For more details please see our website.

If you can attend you will find there is ample free parking at our venue, Dunchurch Park Hotel and an IOSH banner will be on display to indicate the meeting location. Come and enjoy the networking with fellow Health and Safety professionals whilst enjoying the hot buffet which is available at 18:00. Networking will continue until 19:00 when the meeting commences. We aim to finish around 20:45 but questions may run on a little.
